It's What's On The Inside That Matters By Elly S.

My all time favorite book is Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio. I first read this book in 3rd grade and since then I have read it dozens of more times. A quote on the back of the book says “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” this book really adds to the meaning of the book because the book is about a ten year old boy with extreme facial deformity and had gone through over 40 surgeries by just age ten. His name is Augie. Augie had been home schooled forever because of these surgeries but this years things change up. His dad thinks he should go to middle school and Augie is ok with this concept but is still frightened because often kids scream or cry when they see him. But he becomes friends with this boy who gets to know him well and realizes even though he is different on the outside he is an amazing person on the inside. Them two go through many ups and down and make new friends throughout the whole book. The resolution of this book is by far my favorite. The climax is when their school goes on a camping trip and during the outdoor movie the boys wandered into the woods to go to the bathroom and that is when these big older kids from a different school start to beat up Augie and rip off his hearing-aids. But luckily these older boys from Augie’s school where also in the woods and defended him and fought back at the older kids. Now this is where the resolution comes in. The older kids from Augie’s school start to become good friends with him and everyone in school finds out about what happens in the woods and suddenly everyone has this huge appreciation for all the boys and Augie especially. Once everyone got over his face and learned about what’s on the inside and his saw his personality everyone loved him. This is the meaning of “don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” How would you feel if you were Augie and these older boys that used to bully you suddenly defended you and showed the best of you to everyone? I personally would be in aw!
