Molly- Lit Devices, short story

Maddie always wanted to join the boys basketball team, but she couldn’t. Swish, that was the sweet sound to Maddie’s ears. Maddie was standing at the freethrow line. It was her freshmen year, she was trying out for the basketball team. Not just any team… The boys team. As the next ball leaves her fingertips, she has a smirk on her face, like Maddie knows it's going to go in. Maddie flicks her wrist for her followthru. She starts racing back and what do you know? Swish, the balls in. The other teammate comes bolting up the court like a cheetah. But no cheetah is too fast for Maddie. She swats the ball out of his hand and sprints to the basketball, but they ketch up, Maddie got held up by a double team. Then, out of nowhere, she bursts through them. It felt like she was running threw a brick wall.
“Timeout!” Coach Adams screams.
Maddie walks over to get water. When Maddie is on the court, she acts like its a piece of cake. She makes it look so easy. I could tell she loves the sport because every time she dances across the court.
“There's 5 seconds left of the game, and we are down by two.” Says coach. “We need a three to win the game. Who can shoot a three?”
Everyone raises their hand, including Maddie. But Maddie's hand shot up like a firework. Coach Adams saw Maddie's hand first.
“Maddie go in for Josh, someone screen for Maddie so she can get the ball at the three point line and shoot.” Says Coach.
So, they all put their hands in the middle and start chanting. You could tell that they boys were not happy with Maddie.
“Warriors on three. One Two Three, WARRIORS!”
They start running to their spots on the court. The ref blows the whistle. Right then and there is when Maddie knew she couldn't give up. Just because it's not a real game doesn't mean you don't try. Maddie starting dribbling the ball up the court. I could almost feel how exited she was to show her coach that she can shoot a three, she had a smirk on her face and gave everyone a death stare. Maddie started dribbling to the left waiting for someone to set a screen. But no one did. There were 3 seconds left and she had the ball. it looked like Maddie was going to explode. 2 Seconds. She sprints as fast as she can to get behind the three point line. 1 second. She stops dribbling, looks at the basket, and gives the person guarding her a smile. Then she shoots. You could see the fear coming off of everyone's face when she released the ball. The buzzer strikes with a loud ring. Maddies watching the ball spin through the air towards the basket.
Maddie starts whispering to herself, ‘Please, please, please.”
Swish. Maddies face just lit up with joy. She made a fist and punched it in the air. Everyone on her team came over and picked her up and started cheering for her like she was a king.
“MADDIE! MADDIE! MADDIE! MADDIE!.” the whole crowd starts to cheer.
The final score was 74-75. We won! Maddie was the happiest girl on the earth. But after practice, coach said that the papers would be up on the wall to see who made the team and who did not.
“Hey Maddie, can we talk?” Coach Adams says.
“Sure whats up? Is everything ok?” Maddie says.
“Everythings perfect. You did amazing at practice today.”
“Thanks.”
“The only thing is, I don't want you to feel awkward because you're the only girl on the team.” Coach says.
“Oh, not at all. I'm so excited to be on your team.”
“That's what I like to hear.”
“Have a good day coach. Bye.”
“Bye Maddie.”

Maddie comes over to the board and stares at it. She sees, Maddie -Three point shooter. Maddie closed her eyes and took it all in. When she opened her eyes, she was in her bed. It was all a dream.
