Good enough?
A wooden court, a hoop and a orange basketball were life to Blake. Everyday before and after school he would just try to get better and better. He wanted to, one day be known as that kid who was the best. Ever since Blake was little he liked basketball. He learned lessons and how to play the game. He looked up to Micheal Jordan and one day wanted to be that good. That was Blake's dream, he never gave up even when he wanted to because his goal was something that he was gonna achieve. “To learn to succeed you must first learn to fail.” - MJ. This quote hit Blake hard. Blake’s dad read this quote to him and he took it in. When Blake felt as if he wasn't good enough or he couldn't do something he just thought about that quote. Blake would practice as hard as a wooden wall. Basketball season was coming up and, Blake’s school team which Blake was trying out for. Last year he made the team but this year he is a freshman, with so many new kids who are great players as well as him. The day of tryouts: Blake wakes up and he walked to the park at 5:00 in the morning. The sun was rising, you can see the raindrops from last night slightly in the ground. The shining sun, hitting Blake's shirt. He thought the hoop was almost coming to him because every shot he took went in. He practiced for 2 hours straight then went to school. He was sweating so much from practicing and didn't have time to shower, that he went straight to school. School went by fast for Blake that day. Class after class was as fast as a snap for Blake. The bell has rung and school was over. Blake went to the locker room and changed as fast as he could so he can get one or two more shots in. He then had a vision. It was when he tried out last year. The shots he took, the passes he made, the dribbles he took. It was a great try out. He wanted it to be like that again. The boys were on the line and tryouts have started. He saw all his friends from last year and they dribbled and passed with each other. The coach was watching Blake very closely and Blake didn't know, if it was because he was doing good or doing bad. After 2 hours of tryouts the coach said that he would post who made the team. Blake wouldn't eat he was too nervous to find out. His mom checked right when the clock struck 8:00. Blake wasn't on the roster. He didn't understand why, he was so upset because he put such hard work and dedication into his try out. He went to school, all sad the next day. Right before Blake's first period started his mom forwarded him an email. The email said something about how Blake did so great at his try out that he was offered a spot on varsity. Blake’s mouth dropped with excitement when he read this email. His parents knew something was up when he didn't make the team because he has practicing for as long as his parents could remember. All the kids at Blake’s school realized that if you put hard work and dedication into something, your goal will be achieved. Blake’s journey had its up and its downs, but he never stopped. Even when he thought he wasn't good enough, that never made him stop trying. Children from his school were inspired by him. They learned that dreams could come true. Never stop trying in what you believe in. Blake would continue being on varsity, graduated and was a recruit at Syracuse University. He soon would be playing in the European league as he graduated college. Even though Blake had hardships as he grew up and wasn't always the best out of the best, that didn't mean that he couldn't work until he met his dreams. Just like Michael Jordan said “To learn to succeed you must first learn to fail.”
